Rep. Fudge Recognizes National Teacher Appreciation Week

WASHINGTON, DC –National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3rd through May 9th and Representative Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) recognizes those who inspire future generations.

"Every day educators are charged with lighting a fire in the minds of their students by introducing them to new concepts. In a world where knowledge is currency, I am humbled that teachers take the time to share their knowledge with students," said Rep. Fudge. "I am honored to recognize their commitment to the nation's students and to our collective future."

Rep. Fudge issued the following proclamation in observance of Teachers' Appreciation Week on May 9, 2009:

 "A proclamation recognizing the roles and contributions of America’s teachers to building and enhancing our nation’s civic, cultural and economic wellbeing.

 "Whereas education and knowledge is the foundation of America’s current and future strength;

 "Whereas teachers and other education staff have earned and deserve the respect of their students and communities for their selfless dedication to community service and the future of our nation’s children;

 "Whereas the purpose of National Teachers Appreciation Week (May 3 – 9, 2009) is to raise public awareness of the unquantifiable contributions of teachers and to promote greater respect and understanding for the teaching profession;

 "Whereas a number of organizations representing educators, such as the National Education Association and the National Parent Teacher Association, are hosting teacher appreciation events in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week;

"It my great honor to thank and promote the profession of teaching during and to encourage students, parents, school administrators and public officials to participate in teacher appreciation events during National Teacher Appreciation Week."
