REP. FUDGE: STATEMENT ON YOM KIPPUR

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement today regarding Yom Kippur:

"For the Jewish community in Ohio, the United States and around the world, the New Year has begun. This week, the High Holidays continue with the Days of Awe and observance of Yom Kippur, a day of reflection and repentance. This is a time for families, communities and even nations to come together and rededicate themselves to overcoming differences and building a better future. Let us reaffirm a commitment to the core values shared by all faiths: a resolve to be kind and treat others with respect, civility and generosity. In a time of economic hardship for so many in our community, it is important that we all work to make the New Year better for those who are struggling.

The Talmud states that the Books of Life and Death are open during the nine Days of Awe until Yom Kippur, when a final decision on who will be granted another year of life is determined. I wish my Jewish constituents an easy fast and a meaningful Yom Kippur.  May you all be sealed in the Book of Life."
