WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, at the weekly press conference with Republican leaders, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) discussed the House Republican FY2016 Budget that balances in less than 10 years without raising taxes and calls for a fairer, simpler tax code to promote job creation and a healthy economy.

The following are Congresswoman Jenkins’ remarks:

“If we have learned anything over the last few years, it is that we cannot count on Washington to balance its budget, or to really force the tough spending decisions that we need to get our fiscal house in order.

“I’ve had many titles before I came to Congress, mom, CPA, State Treasurer, and in all of those situations I’ve always had to balance the budget. 

“That’s why I am really proud this week that the House Republicans will be rolling out their budget that will balance within the budget window – something that the president has been incapable of doing. His budget never ever balances and to perpetuity he can never point to a time in history where he will stop spending more of the taxpayers money than he takes in.

“I’m also proud within this budget will be reforms to the tax code to make it simpler, fairer, and flatter.

“There is no doubt we got a lot of challenges ahead, but our plan to help make America more secure, cut waste, boost our economy, and get this balanced budget in place is a good first step.”
