Paulsen Votes to Advance Pro-Manufacturing Legislation

Washington, D.C.– Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) voted to advance the bipartisan American Manufacturing and Competitiveness Act, legislation to level the playing field for Minnesota’s small businesses and manufacturers, at a Ways and Means Committee markup Wednesday morning. The legislation establishes a process for producing a Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) that provides duty relief for American businesses and would inject billions into the economy. The previous MTB, passed in 2010, supported 90,000 manufacturing jobs and increased production by $4.6 billion. However, the law expired in 2012, increasing taxes by $748 million annually on job creators.

“This commonsense proposal will help Minnesota manufacturing – making it easier to create jobs, lower costs, increase U.S. production, and grow the economy,” said Paulsen. “Passing the bipartisan miscellaneous tariff bill is a surefire way to help domestic manufacturers boost their hiring."

Paulsen spoke at the committee markup in favor of the legislation. Video is available here. The bill is expected to receive a vote on the House floor in the coming weeks.

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
