Paulsen Statement on Ways and Means Approval of Trade Legislation

Washington, D.C.– Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) released the following statement after he voted to pass the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act, also known as Trade Promotion Authority, out of the House Ways and Means Committee today. The legislation now heads to the House floor.

“We need Trade Promotion Authority to get good trade agreements that will create a healthier economy, grow jobs, and increase paychecks,” said Paulsen. “One in five American jobs is tied to trade and those jobs pay higher wages on average.”

Negotiating new trade agreements with Asia and Europe means selling more American-made goods and services. The Trade Promotion Authority legislation, which passed with bipartisan support, includes important provisions like protections for intellectual property rights, rules for agricultural trade, and measures to combat currency manipulation.”

Paulsen serves as a member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade and is the co-chair of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Caucus.

Congressman Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
