Minneapolis Police Sergeant to Join Congressman Paulsen at State of the Union

Washington, D.C.– Minneapolis police sergeant Grant Snyder will accompany Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) as his guest to this year’s State of the Union Address. Sergeant Snyder is known for his leadership in the law enforcement community on combating sex trafficking. Paulsen is authoring legislation, the Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act that encourages states to pass ‘Safe Harbor’ laws that treat minors who are being trafficked as victims, not criminals. Congressman Paulsen also wrote a letter to the President asking that he raise the problem of sex trafficking in his State of the Union address as an important area where both parties in Congress can come together.

“Too many young girls are experiencing the horrors of human trafficking, and leaders like Sergeant Snyder are saving lives,” said Paulsen.

Congressman Paulsen is a long-time advocate for combating sex trafficking and testified in front of a Ways and Means Subcommittee about what can be done to address the issue. In addition to the Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act, Paulsen authored the Child Sex Trafficking Data and Response Act which was included in a larger bill and signed into law in 2014. A recent report released by the Polaris Project, an anti-sex trafficking group, found that a majority of states lack safe harbor laws to protect victims.
