WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced Monday that Simpson County Judge/Executive Jim Henderson was nominated by the President to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. Judge Henderson was recommended for the position by Senator McConnell.

Judge Henderson, who was born in Franklin, was elected Simpson County judge/executive in 1998, and is currently in his fourth term.  He also serves on the executive board of the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association and is a member of its legislative committee. Henderson is a 1992 graduate of Western Kentucky University.

“I’ve known Judge Henderson for several years and he’s one of the most outstanding leaders in our state,” McConnell said. “He’s a man of great character who works hard for the people of south-central Kentucky. I’m confident he’ll represent the Commonwealth well in his new role.”

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship is a federal scholarship program for U.S. college juniors interested in public service. Congress created the scholarship in 1975, in honor of the 33rd president of the United States.

Judge Henderson’s nomination must now be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
