WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell named U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) Chair of the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force for the 111th Congress on Tuesday.

“It’s critically important to prevent burdensome regulations or taxes which hinder development and ship U.S. jobs overseas,” said Sen. McConnell. “I’m confident Sen. Hatch will lead the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force to support American innovators, expand technological advances to rural areas and create good jobs here at home.”

The Senate Republican High Tech Task Force was established in 1999 to advise the Republican Conference on technology issues. The Task Force helps facilitate an exchange of views between the Senate and America’s job creators in high tech industries.

“I’m honored to serve as chairman of the Task Force,” Sen. Hatch said following McConnell’s announcement. “Even in the midst of the worst recession in decades, the nation’s tech industry as a whole was able to add 77,000 jobs last year. Given the current economic climate, it is critically important for lawmakers to enact legislation that will spur innovation, create jobs and maintain our nation’s technological edge. I am confident this task force can do that and will do everything in my power to ensure that it does.”

The following Senators will serve as members of the Task Force for the 111th Congress:

Senator Orrin Hatch, Utah, Chairman

Senator Jim Bunning, Kentucky

Senator Richard Burr, North Carolina

Senator John Cornyn, Texas

Senator Mike Crapo, Idaho

Senator John Ensign, Nevada

Senator Mike Enzi, Wyoming

Senator Judd Gregg, New Hampshire

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Texas

Senator Pat Roberts, Kansas

Senator John Thune, South Dakota

Senator David Vitter, Louisiana
