Tax Reform

I have serious concerns with proposals to raise taxes on families and businesses. Congress should be focused on advancing the best solutions to spur economic recovery.  I’m a supporter of pro-growth economic policies that stimulate the economy and create jobs.  I believe in a low-rate tax system which fosters an environment for growth and brings certainty to the marketplace.

We must simplify our tax system and create a fair, equitable, and transparent system that is more conducive to saving and investment.  I believe fundamentally reforming our tax code is a priority for the 114th Congress.  The current system of U.S. taxation is too complex and difficult to administer and comprehensive tax reform will strengthen our economy by making the tax code fairer, simpler, and flatter.  A system that spurs greater investment, innovation, and job creation will make Indiana workers and businesses more competitive.

The President’s budget raises taxes and still fails to balance our nation’s checkbook. Taking more money from hardworking taxpayers to fund another federal spending spree won’t turn our economy around or help people find the jobs they need.

Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN) released the following statement after voting in favor of the “Path to Prosperity” Fiscal Year 2014 budget:

“Today, House Republicans passed a responsible and forward-looking budget plan that aims to make life better for all Americans. Chairman Ryan’s proposal balances the nation’s checkbook with a simple but common sense principal: don’t spend more than you take in. Our own Hoosier state has lived up to this same standard for years, as have millions of hard working American families.
