Rep. Paulsen Votes to Extend Tax Relief for American Families and Small Businesses

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 17, 2010

Rep. Paulsen Votes to Extend Tax Relief for American
Families and Small Businesses

Washington, D.C.Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan agreement to extend tax relief to American families and small businesses by a vote of 277-148:

“While this bill was far from perfect, the alternative was to see taxes go up significantly on American families and the small businesses that power our economy,” said Rep. Paulsen. “Despite the bill’s short comings, I could not support a collection of job-killing tax increases while our nation’s economy continues to limp along.”

“This legislation will provide much needed relief to small businesses that are responsible for seven out of every ten new jobs created. Confidence among small business owners has remained dangerously low—something that I hope will be corrected with relief on the horizon. And for American families, this bill represents hope that these tough economic times will soon come to an end.”

“Looking forward to the new year, it is my hope that Congress will reaffirm its commitment to American families and small businesses by making these tax cuts permanent once and for all.”

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, is a member of the House Financial Services Committee and co-chair of the House Med Tech Caucus. Starting in January, Paulsen will serve on the Ways and Means Committee, the panel tasked with framing the nation’s economic, health care, tax and trade policy.
