Paulsen Statement on Healthcare Enrollment Figures

Only 1,774 Minnesotans Enroll in Marketplace Plans as 140,000 Minnesotans Lose Current Coverage

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Erik Paulsen released the following statement today after the Department of Health and Human Services released the latest enrollment numbers for the President’s new healthcare law:

“It’s been six weeks since the launch of the President’s healthcare law, and thousands of Minnesotans have received cancellation notices or seen their healthcare premiums significantly increase. The simple truth is: the facts show it’s hurting more people than it’s helping. The dismal roll out of the new law and the staggeringly low enrollment numbers reinforce my belief that the Administration should honor the commitments made, and no American should be forced to give up the health insurance they like and that’s right for their family.”

After more than three years of preparation, only 106,000 people signed up for coverage in the new healthcare exchanges as of November 2, nearly 80% below the Administration’s estimates.

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
