Paulsen Raises MNsure Oversight Issues to HHS Secretary

Washington, D.C.– In a House Ways and Means Committee hearing, Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) questioned Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Sylvia Burwell on the lack of oversight of MNsure that has resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in overpayments. A new audit of MNsure found errors in 38 percent of cases for enrollees in the state health care exchange. Over the five month period that the audit covered, up to $271 million in overpayments may have been paid out.

Paulsen commented on the hearing, “Instead of simply throwing money at the problem of noncompliance and overpayments, HHS needs to hold state exchanges accountable.Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are being wasted, and there is no sense of urgency from the agency. Taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook for mismanagement.”
