Art Competition

Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives.  The Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.  The winning piece from each congressional district will be displayed as part of a year-long national exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a walkway leading from the Cannon House Office Building to the U.S. Capitol.

This competition is open to all high school students attending school or living in the Sixth Congressional District.  Only one entry per student will be accepted.  Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. 

The artwork may be no larger than 28” x 28” x 4” (including the frame). The artwork may be a:

• Painting - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
• Drawing - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
• Collage
• Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
• Mixed Media
• Computer Generated Art
• Photography
