WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 2028, the FY 2016 Energy and Water Development Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This appropriations bill authorizes $12.3 billion to fund the Department of Energy’s nuclear weapons security program, and invests in critical American infrastructures like our waterways, natural resources, and energy grid.

“In today’s volatile world, the need for nuclear weapon security has never been greater. Today, I voted to fully fortify the Department of Energy’s nuclear weapon security, which is key to keeping American families safe and secure. We understand there are many aspects of American defense – including energy independence and a strong domestic infrastructure. This appropriations bill supports American energy alternatives like natural resources and innovative research that will reduce our country’s dependence on foreign oil. We voted to proactively invest in American infrastructure, like our nation’s electrical grid and the waterways that carry commerce vital to our economic security. When our country is strong at home, we are strong leaders abroad. By investing in nuclear safety, energy alternatives, and domestic infrastructure, we lead the world by example. I applaud my colleague Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID) for putting the safety and security of the American people first.”
