House Republicans sensibly want greater certainty about the duration of these provisions, while Senate Democrats want more time to negotiate the terms. These goals are not mutually exclusive. We can and should do both. Working Americans have suffered enough from the President’s failed economic policies and shouldn’t face the uncertainty of a New Year’s Day tax hike.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement on Wednesday on Utility MACT:

“This ruling should be overturned. The rule threatens the availability of reliable electricity to the American public, costs the taxpayer over $10 billion dollars each year in addition to significantly raising electricity prices, and will result in the loss of hundreds of thousands of American jobs. Kentucky’s approximately 18,000 coal miners are already facing an uncertain future, and these constant attacks by the Administration must stop.”

And since I still haven’t heard a good reason from the White House as to why they would block it, I’m hopeful the President will do the right thing—and get this crucial project underway. The only thing standing between thousands of American workers, and the good jobs this project will provide, is President Obama. This project is good for jobs. It’s good for America. I urge my colleagues—and the President—to support it.
