Washington, DC – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell meets White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Gil Kerlikowske on Monday in his office in the U.S. Capitol to discuss the Director’s upcoming trip to Kentucky. Senator McConnell encouraged Director Kerlikowske to visit Kentucky to see first-hand the challenges posed by illegal drugs in the Commonwealth. During the meeting, Senator McConnell and Director Kerlikowske discussed the problems facing Kentucky, as they relate to prescription drug abuse, meth production and marijuana eradication. `In other words, even if we don’t add another dime to the current spending levels, the deficit will get even worse than last year. That’s what would happen under the President’s best offer, which is to lock in the dramatically higher spending levels from the past two years and put the budget on cruise control. The deficit wouldn’t stand still — it will grow by $200 billion, over the next several months. So we have to get real. We need to listen to our constituents. Freezes aren’t going to cut it.’
