Quigley Meets with Alcott College Prep Students Receiving Inauguration Tickets

CHICAGO – U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) addressed Alcott College Prep students at their East Elementary Campus today in advance of the 2017 Presidential Inauguration. Rep. Quigley is giving forty-one Alcott seventh and eighth grade students tickets to the inauguration taking place on January 20.

“It’s never too early to teach students the importance of participating in our democracy through political engagement,” said Rep. Quigley. “I always enjoy helping young people in the Fifth District expand their understanding of government and involvement in public service, and I am honored to have the opportunity to offer Alcott College Prep students a front-row seat to this important civics lesson in our nation’s capital.”                                                                                             

"As Alcott students leave for what is not only a historic event but one of the greatest lessons in history and civics, it is comforting that Congressman Quigley took the time and opportunity to teach our students about the significance of a peaceful transition of power in the greatest country in the world,” said Alcott College Prep Principal Elias Estrada.

Rep. Quigley addressed approximately 300 Alcott College Prep students in the East Campus auditorium, including the forty-one students who will receive tickets to attend this month's inauguration. They will be the only Chicago Public Schools group from a neighborhood school traveling to Washington, D.C. to see the event.

As Illinois’ only member on the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Quigley has made funding for education a top priority. A former teacher himself, Rep. Quigley also served as an adjunct professor of political science at Loyola University Chicago and Roosevelt University, lecturing on politics and local government.
