Congressman Marc Veasey

Representing the 33rd District of Texas

Housing

As your representative in Congress, I’m committed to helping families become homeowners, eradicating homelessness, and ensuring safe and affordable housing options in the 33rd District.  The soaring price of housing in the Metroplex has forced families to spend more of their income on housing costs.  These prices limit the ability of families to pay for other basic necessities like health care and groceries. I am working with local leaders in the community and national advocates to expand and strengthen affordable housing options.

Recently, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded over $500,000 in federal funding to the Fort Worth Housing Authority (FWHA), which serves constituents in Congressional District 33.  A grant of $250,000 will be used to improve the safety and security at Butler Place Public Housing Community and another $269,856 will go to the Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program that assists families with supportive services.   In this time of steep proposed budget cuts, I promise to continue fighting to ensure that the 33rd Congressional District receives critical federal funding for housing, education, health care, and jobs.

Dear Friends,

As Congress prepares to reconvene in September, this month I hosted two town hall meetings, held a successful federal grant writing workshop, and helped serve coffee at Mama’s Daughters Diner for “Coffee with Your Congressman.” August’s “Marc Means Business” highlighted Fort Worth-based eye care company Alcon, where I learned not only about the assembly of surgical packs, but also about how Congress can better support U.S. based manufacturers.

Dear Friends,

As I prepare to return to the Metroplex for the August district work period, I want to share a few key highlights from the month of July. This last month, I was proud to introduce key legislation to protect  vulnerable immigrants  from fraud, better inform TX-33 residents on the latest  developments in the ongoing immigration policy debate, and spend the day working at one of the Metroplex’s affordable housing developments.

Jul 30, 2015 In The News

On a 97-degree morning, a new employee at the Taylors Farm Apartments in Dallas was picking up and taking trash to the dumpster, fixing appliances and responding to residents’ maintenance requests.

To some of the residents, he looked just like Congressman Marc A. Veasey, a Democrat whose 33rd district covers the apartment community.

Spoiler alert: He actually was Congressman Marc A Veasey, spending the morning working alongside staff to better understand the working and housing challenges his constituents face.
