Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) led an effort to keep the House of Representatives in session, urging Speaker John Boehner not to start the planned five-week recess and instead stay in Washington to complete numerous pressing legislative tasks. Rep. Peters was joined by 71 other members in his letter to the Speaker.

Citing a “growing list of pressing matters” on the House’s plate, Rep. Scott Peters led 71 other members of Congress Thursday in an effort to postpone a planned five-week recess.

The Democratic group, which also included Susan Davis and Juan Vargas from the San Diego County delegation, sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner urging a delay.

The House on Thursday narrowly defeated a Democratic motion to instruct House conferees on the Department of Veterans Affairs overhaul to simply adopt the Senate-passed bill. 

The motion offered by Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) was rejected in a close 205-207 vote, with 13 Republicans voting in favor. All 207 no votes were from Republicans.

Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) announced Monday, July 21 that his office has helped residents of the 52nd District secure more than $1.1 million in benefits to which they are entitled.

The office of Rep. Scott Peters announced Monday it has surpassed the $1.1 million mark in helping obtain benefits that San Diego residents were entitled to from federal agencies but had difficulty receiving.

Like all congressional offices, Peters’ staff includes caseworkers who assist residents having problems with federal agencies.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a bill that includes $216 million to complete the expansion of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

The money would be used to pay for an administration and pedestrian building at San Ysidro. The next step would be passage by the Senate.
