Education

Like you, I believe that all children deserve educational opportunity and a chance for future success. As you know, since 2001, The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) has demonstrated that federal bureaucratic control of education fails our students. This law has forced our classrooms to prepare for standardized tests rather than becoming effective teaching and learning environments. It has neither significantly increased academic performance nor reduced achievement gaps. This expanded federal control has diminished education quality and equity by binding the hands of our educators in the classroom. America’s students need and deserve better.

If the United States is to remain globally competitive, we must make dramatic reforms to our education system. By restoring more authority over education to state and local governments, we can give schools the flexibility to target their limited resources to their most vital needs. Rest assured, as your Representative, I will continue to work to ensure that our nation’s children receive the education they deserve to prepare them for a successful future.

Washington, D.C. – Tonight, the President gave his annual remarks for the State of the Union. In response, Congressman Randy Weber (R-Texas) made the following statement:

“Tonight, President Obama put forth an agenda that he believes will boost the economy and create good-paying jobs without costing a dime. However, we’ve heard the exact same story for the last four years. Instead, President Obama’s failed policies have exploded our debt, increased unemployment and stifled economic growth.
