Representative Bradley Byrne

Transportation

I believe transportation is a fundamental responsibility of Congress outlined in the Constitution. Having a reliable, safe transportation system is critical to economic development and commerce. We have a major transportation need in the heart of the First District: I strongly support construction of a new I-10 bridge over the Mobile River.

Over the last few weeks, reporters with television cameras have stood watch in the lobby of Trump Tower in New York City to see who is coming and going from meetings with President-elect Donald Trump.

Most of the visitors are there to talk to the President-elect about opportunities to serve in his administration, and based on the announcements so far, it is safe to say that President-elect Trump is putting together a great team.

Last Tuesday, the American people went to the polls to elect the people they want to lead our country, and the outcome of the election was pretty clear.

Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, and Republicans will continue to control both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Complete Republican control of the federal government has only happened 16 out of the past 100 years.

It is that time of the year again. Families and students are flocking down Interstate 65 or across Interstate 10 to our Alabama beaches for spring break. Those of us who have lived here our entire lives know what it means: crowded roads, packed restaurants, and full hotels.

2015 was packed full of major developments for Southwest Alabama. As the year draws to a close, I thought it would be a good time to review some of the highlights.

One of the first votes the House of Representatives took in 2015 was on my bill to repeal Obamacare in its entirety and instead move forward with patient-centered healthcare reform that isn’t run by the federal government. My bill passed the House by a vote of 296 to 186.

If you listen to national media outlets, all you ever hear is how Congress is completely broken and dysfunctional. While that narrative is right at times, last week was a bright spot when it comes to working together and passing long-overdue reforms.

The House and the Senate earlier this year each passed separate bills to set policy for our nation’s K-12 education system and to fund our highway system, respectively. Since different bills were passed, Conference Committees made up of both House and Senate members were formed to work out the differences.

Dec 3, 2015 Press Release

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) today praised House passage of a new, five year highway bill and outlined the impact the bill will have on local infrastructure projects, like the I-10 bridge.

The House approved H.R. 22, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, today by a bipartisan vote of 359 to 65. The bill, known as a Conference Report, is the result of negotiations between the House and the Senate after both bodies passed different highway bills earlier this year. The current highway funding bill expires on December 4th.

I’ve written many times about the need for Congress to pass a reliable, long-term bill to fund our nation’s highway system. I’ve considered this one of my top priorities in Congress because of how important a new highway bill would be for our area.

Jul 29, 2015 Press Release

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) today voted against legislation that would fund the nation’s highway system through October 29 and take $3 billion from the VA Choice Card program to solve other problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

H.R. 3236, the Surface Transportation and Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act, passed the House today by a vote of 385 to 34. Congressman Byrne could not support the legislation because it only offered short-term fixes to address serious issues.
