Immigration

Our current immigration system is broken and in need of reform. I have two key principles on immigration. Number 1: Any discussion on immigration reform must start with border security. Until our borders are actually secure, I am not interested in talking about other reforms. Number 2: I remain firmly opposed to amnesty and would not support any immigration proposal that gives amnesty to those here illegally.

Our nation has a serious problem with illegal immigrants crossing our border each and every day.

Recently, the immigration issue made its way to Southwest Alabama when the Obama Administration announced they were considering a plan to house unaccompanied alien children (UACs) at two Navy airfields in Baldwin County. The airfields are located near Orange Beach and Silverhill.

That is certainly what I hear at my town hall meetings in Southwest Alabama, but the same is true all around the United States. According to Real Clear Politics, 65% of Americans believe our country is headed in the wrong direction.

When you are frustrated, it is simple to spend all your time complaining about what is wrong. In other words, it is easy to be against something.

The House today passed an amendment authored by Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) that would prohibit the Department of Defense from using any money to construct or modify facilities to house unaccompanied alien children (UAC).

Byrne’s amendment passed the House by a vote of 223 to 198.

The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement is evaluating whether airfields near Silverhill, Ala. and Orange Beach, Ala. would be suitable for housing illegal migrant children from Central and South America.
