I support an “all of the above” energy strategy for the Unites States. America should lead the world in new innovative energy technology while continuing to develop and use our vast traditional energy resources. New technologies are allowing the extraction of more natural gas than ever before and creating thousands of good paying jobs in the process. Coal can now be burned more cleanly and provides affordable energy to much of Indiana.
There must be an appropriate balance between environmental protection and its real world consequences. Our national resources must be protected and responsible standards set to make sure we all live in a safer and cleaner world. Yet, well-intentioned but inappropriate regulations will cost jobs and do little to promote the environmental standards we all want to see enforced. The President needs to abandon his “war on coal” and allow the development of all of America’s energy resources in a responsible manner. That is how we will be able to provide American consumers and businesses with the affordable energy that will power the world-leading American economy.

WASHINGTON—Congressman Luke Messer (IN-06) released the following statement after the Supreme Court blocked the enforcement of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Clean Power Plan while litigation continues:
“I voted in December to reject the EPA’s proposed regulations on coal, and I’m glad to see the Supreme Court has stopped their implementation while litigation continues. Those of us from Indiana know that coal means jobs and low-cost reliable energy; therefore we have to keep coal part of our nation’s energy mix.
WASHINGTON—Today, the House passed legislation to lift the American oil export ban which has stifled American energy production and economic growth for decades.
President Obama made a lot of campaign promises when running for office in 2008. Some promises he kept—others, he didn’t. Unfortunately, his Administration appears to be making headway on a radical campaign pledge to reduce greenhouses gases—a plan the President himself said would cause electricity rates to “necessarily skyrocket.”

“It is long past the time to begin building the Keystone pipeline. It is vital to our national security that our country becomes energy independent. To do that, we need an all of the above energy policy and the Keystone XL pipeline is important piece of the puzzle
