National Security
The most important role of any government is to protect its citizens. Keeping the peace by maintaining a strong military is essential to deterring those who would wish to harm us. Adequate funding for maintaining a strong defense is critical but we must also do it in a smarter way that reduces the waste and delays in our current acquisition process. Nation building should not be used as a principle tool for achieving America's national security objectives. Instead, the United States should support factions within a given region that share our security objectives.

Aurora, CO -- U.S. Representative Mike Coffman (CO-06) today issued the following statement in response to a Congressional joint task force’s report on U.S. Central Command’s (CENTCOM) ISIS intelligence manipulation:
Aurora Congressman Mike Coffman said if Buckley Air Force Base is not awarded new F-35 fighter jets, the base would likely lose its Air National Guard unit someday.
“If we don’t get them, we will lose the runway. It’s only the fighter aircraft of the 140th Wing Colorado Air National Guard that require us to have an active runway at Buckley,” he said. “It affects the longterm health of (the) base when we’re looking at base closures.”
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter insisted to a doubting Congress Wednesday that the U.S. has a detailed strategy for Iraq and Syria despite charges from both sides of the aisle that the Obama administration lacked an overall plan which was producing results.
(Washington, D.C.)– U.S. Representative Mike Coffman (R-CO) offered the following statement after voting to fund the Department of Homeland Security for the rest of the fiscal year.
The Pentagon is more top-heavy than ever before. How much does this bureaucratic bloat cost taxpayers? The Pentagon has no idea, and neither does the Government Accountability Office. Pentagon officials know they need more generals and admirals, they just can’t tell you why. Those are the conclusions from a GAO report released earlier this month.
