Beatty Marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual initiative to increase awareness around breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. As a strong supporter of women’s health, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

“This year, more than 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and another 40,000 will die from the disease.” Beatty said. “But the good news is that there are steps you can take to help protect yourself and have a better chance at detecting and treating breast cancer earlier, such as getting regular mammograms if you are over 50-years-old, conducting self-examinations or talking with your doctor at a younger age.” Beatty continued, “Still, finding a cure or preventing it altogether should be our ultimate goal. That is why I will continue to call for greater funding to support federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute—researchers that are working tirelessly to find a cure once and for all.”

During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, please visit Congresswoman Beatty’s Facebook and Twitter for useful information, facts, and resources. Be sure to join the conversation online, and share your own story, by using: #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, #BCAM, #BCAM2016, and #NotDoneYet.
