Job Creation and the Economy
Government does not create jobs. Government creates an environment where private business can grow and create jobs. We are now competing in a global economy, and our government needs to recognize the evolving needs of American business owners in this global competition. Our overly complicated tax code, excessive regulations and general uncertainty are squeezing our business community. As a Member of Congress I will work to create an environment where the private sector has the confidence to invest, innovate, prosper and profit. I will also support tax reforms that result in a simpler, shorter and fairer tax code for all Hoosiers.
I also hear from businesses that they are struggling to find qualified workers. I am a proud original cosponsor of the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act because I know we must ensure our schools are training people for the jobs that exist. This bill streamlines the current inefficient workforce development programs and ensures more dollars are invested in training workers. Our economy will improve when more Americans are back to work.

Bosma Enterprises made participating in May’s primary and November’s upcoming election a little more convenient for employees who are blind or visually impaired. In April, a bipartisan group registered employees who were interested for this year’s elections and came back in May to facilitate them casting their primary votes.
Five Indiana legislators and an Indiana congresswoman participated in a Zionsville Chamber of Commerce luncheon and business expo Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Golf Club of Indiana. The annual event allows local business people to connect and network with one another and listen to a panel of speakers about issues that affect them.

Indiana Congresswoman Susan Brooks visited Zionsville Tuesday, Aug. 30, to learn more about zWORKS and the entrepreneurs who work there.
Brooks was accompanied by Zionsville Mayor Tim Haak and Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Julie Johns-Cole on a tour of the year-old facility. She not only saw the physical layout of the building but spent most of her time chatting one on one with entrepreneurs based at zWORKS, an entrepreneurial center and co-working space in Zionsville’s downtown.
The presidential election may be the talk of D.C. and the media, but this is also a busy time of the year for federal policy conversations for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
In mid-August alone, Sen. Joe Donnelly, Senate candidate Evan Bayh and state Sen. Jim Banks, the Republican candidate for the Third congressional District, met with our committee members to discuss issues important to Indiana.

ANDERSON – After seven failed attempts, Madison County has secured $13.5 million in federal funds to replace the Eisenhower Bridge by 2019.
Sen. Joe Donnelly’s office announced Tuesday that Madison County has been awarded a TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant to provide 75 percent of the $18 million cost to replace the bridge.
