PRESS RELEASE: Vela Announces $837K FAA Grant for Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport
Funds will help develop master plan of airport

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Filemon Vela, D-Brownsville, announced today that the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport received $837,000 in federal grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The grant will provide federal funding for an airport master plan study. In addition, the funding will be utilized for a narrative report and airport layout plan that will address issues, objectives and goals which will aid in the development of the airport. Also, funding will allow for replacement of the airport’s beacon which is past its useful service time.

"This FAA funding will set the course for smart development of our air infrastructure needs in the Brownsville and South Padre Island area," said U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela. " This master plan will add to the other infrastructure projects in the area that will help spur economic development and prosperity for the region. I'll continue to work with the City of Brownsville and its leadership to grow and expand the airport to meet the future demands of the region."
