Americans need improved access to greater quality and more affordable healthcare. While we have the best trained medical professionals and the most technologically advanced facilities and equipment, our health care system is too complex and exclusive, and many individuals fall through the cracks. I am deeply concerned that the Affordable Care Act is increasing health insurance premiums in California as well as causing hundreds of thousands of our state citizens to lose the health plans that they have enjoyed for years. 

I support a package of state-based reforms that ensure those with chronic illnesses can find care and patients can control more of their insurance decisions—such as providing individual tax relief for all persons purchasing private health insurance, regardless of where they work, or eliminating barriers to individuals purchasing healthcare coverage that best suits their personal needs across state lines.

Congress has already delayed or changed parts of the Affordable Care Act 14 times, including pushing back the mandate on businesses to comply with the law. It is not too late to put our country on the track towards true patient centered healthcare reform.
