Quigley Statement on New Report on Illinois Job Losses Expected from ACA Repeal

Jan 6, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement on the release of a new Commonwealth Fund and Milken Institute School of Public Health report, detailing economic and employment consequences of repealing the Affordable Care Act:

“The dire consequences of repealing the Affordable Care Act extend far beyond the health and wellness of our country. In addition to stripping quality, affordable care from up to 20 million Americans, repealing the Affordable Care Act without a replacement would also harm our economy, triggering major reductions in employment to the tune of nearly three million jobs by 2021. This number includes 114,000 jobs that would be lost right here in Illinois. Chicagoans cannot afford to lose their jobs and their insurance in one fell swoop. Instead of dismantling our constituents’ financial security, we should pursue bipartisan actions that make it easier for hardworking Americans to succeed.”
