Press Release

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) voted in opposition to H.R. 2578, the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2016 due to budgetary cuts to essential services.

“This bill is not bipartisan and jeopardizes investments that are critical to economic growth, competitiveness and American families’ economic security. I strongly oppose this bill because it fails to protect the safety and security of hardworking American families — proposing cuts to critical community policing services and law enforcement grants,” said Rush.

This bill cuts State and Local Law Enforcement grants by 14 percent below the FY 2015 level and:

  • Provides NO funding for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program.
  • Slashes vital Juvenile Justice programs by $68 million or 27 percent below the FY 2015 level.
