Avoid Scams
We don’t want you to become a victim of an immigration scam. If you need legal advice on immigration matters, make sure the person helping you is authorized to give legal advice. Only an attorney or an accredited representative working for a Board of Immigration Appeals-recognized organization can give you legal advice.
Who can help you with your immigration questions?
If you need help with your questions:
- Call USCIS customer service at 800-375-5283 (TDD for the deaf and hard of hearing: 800-767-1833);
- Ask Emma (a virtual assistant that answers questions and helps you navigate our website);
- Find authorized legal help,
- Check out one of our upcoming outreach events; or
- Schedule an appointment online to visit your local USCIS office.
Tools to Help You Avoid Scammers
We fight immigration scams by giving applicants, legal service providers and community-based organizations knowledge and tools.
- If you receive a suspicious email, forward it to the USCIS Webmaster email box.
- Have you witnessed immigration scams?
- Report it to the Federal Trade Commission by calling 877-FTC-HELP, or you can file a complaint online; and
- Report it to your local or state authorities.
