Maloney Receives "Friend of the Farm Bureau" Award

Oct 16, 2014
Press Release

Newburgh, NY - The New York Farm Bureau named Representative Sean Patrick Maloney a "Friend of the Farm Bureau" because of his record of fighting for farmers across the Hudson Valley and passing the comprehensive Farm Bill. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Rep. Maloney pushed for passage of the 2014 Farm Bill that included Rep. Maloney's CROP Act, which reforms crop insurance and invests in the specialty crop farmers who drive the Hudson Valley’s agricultural economy, and an amendment to help families and communities with flooding in the Black Dirt region.

"Working across the aisle, we delivered the best Farm Bill ever written for our small family farms in the Hudson Valley. I'm proud to be recognized as a 'Friend of the Farm Bureau' and I'll continue delivering results for hardworking farmers, families and small businesses in the Hudson Valley," said Rep. Maloney.

"The Friend of Farm Bureau honor recognizes Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney's voting record on American Farm Bureau Federation's priority issues in Congress.  His support for the Farm Bill and the efforts to understand the needs of farmers in the Hudson Valley are much appreciated. New York Farm Bureau would like to congratulate Rep. Maloney for receiving this award and thank him for his hard work on behalf of the state’s family farms," said Dean Norton, New York Farm Bureau President.

Specialty crops generate nearly $1.4 billion for New York’s economy each year, making up one-third of New York’s agriculture industry. The Hudson Valley’s agricultural economy, which brings tens of thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in revenue to the region, thrives on specialty crops like fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops.

The “Friend of Farm Bureau” award is given at the end of each Congress to those members of Congress who were nominated by their respective state Farm Bureaus and approved by the American Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors. This award is based upon voting records on AFBF’s priority issues established by the Board of Directors, number of bills that a member has sponsored and co-sponsored, specific leadership role for Farm Bureau on priority issues, and how accessible and responsive that member is to Farm Bureau members and leaders.
