Economy and Jobs
My top priority is to get Washington out of the way, so small businesses can provide the job growth and economic expansion that benefits all Americans.
During this time of economic uncertainty, we must take a hard look at our budget priorities and rein in the federal overreach that is impeding private-sector job creation. By cutting out-of-control federal spending and reforming job-killing regulations, we can get government out of the way of the private sector and give businesses room to create jobs, drive economic recovery, and move toward economic security for our families.
Key Issues:
- Energy Development: Thousands of good-paying jobs are tied to energy production in Colorado. I reintroduced the Planning for American Energy Act in the 114th Congress, because I remain committed to advancing an all-of-the-above energy development plan that grows our economy and keeps energy costs affordable for our families. My priorities are to advance policies that create good-paying jobs for Coloradans and block regulations that threaten our energy industry.
- The Affordable Care Act: Instead of making health care more accessible and more affordable, the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, has only made it harder for many Americans to access the health services they need. The law has made it near impossible for insurers to provide plans in our state, and it has forced many small businesses to cut employee health insurance benefits. I have voted every chance I’ve had to repeal Obamacare, either in part or in full. We have chipped away at some of the most harmful provisions of this law with legislation that suspends the Obamacare Health Insurance Tax and gives states the flexibility needed to protect small-group insurance markets from skyrocketing premiums. We must replace this failed law with a solution to empower patients to work with their doctors to choose the care that works best for them in a competitive free marketplace that lowers costs, drives up quality, and expands accessibility for all Americans, including those with pre-existing conditions. I have cosponsored numerous pieces of legislation to that effect and will continue to work to bring about affordability and accessibility in our nation’s healthcare system.
- Tax Reform: The U.S. currently has the highest combined corporate income tax rate of any developed nation in the world. Our tax policies are discouraging foreign investment, driving U.S. jobs overseas, and making it near impossible for small businesses to thrive. I’m working to advance policies like the Main Street Fairness Act (H.R. 5076) and the Tax Code Termination Act (H.R. 27) to reset our current tax system and set us in the right direction.
