Congressman Tom Reed

Representing the 23rd District of New York

Private Property Rights Caucus

In May 2015, we established the Private Property Rights Caucus to educate Members of Congress and their staff on the importance of property rights to a free society, how landowners across the country are being negatively impacted by government action and to protect Americans’ rights to their private property.

Fourteen members of Congress from eleven states ranging from Maine to Arizona joined us as original members of the Caucus.

We are proud to have introduced the Defense of Property Rights Act during the 114th Congress to provide property owners with an opportunity to seek compensation in Federal court when government action significantly impairs the value of their land. This is an issue that affects Americans from rural communities to urban centers across the nation. We need fairness and respect for private property. We also need government at all levels to carefully consider the impact that regulatory actions have on property rights and property values.

If you would like to stay up to date on our work with the Private Property Rights Caucus, please sign up for our e-mail updates here.
