Congresswoman Speier To Encourage Girls To Reach For Untraditional Dreams

March 15, 2016
Press Release

San Mateo, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) and six exceptional women who have broken barriers and made history in their fields will encourage elementary, middle and high school girls to make their own dreams come true at two events in San Francisco and South San Francisco during Women’s History Month. Speier will be joined by San Francisco Sheriff Vicki
Hennessy, Kimberly Chambers who set a world record swimming 30 miles from the Farallon Islands and broadcast journalist Jan Yanehiro in the San Francisco Public Library Excelsior Branch at 10:30 a.m., and by NASA astrophysicist Natalie Batalha, ABC7 news anchor and reporter Kristen Sze and San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer at the South San Francisco Public Library Main Branch at 1 p.m. Each event runs for one hour.

“Seeing these outstanding women spark a light in the girl’s eyes and hearts gives me hope every year we do these memorable events during Women’s History Month,” Speier said. “Mentorship is one of the most precious gifts we pass on to future generations.”

When I Grow Up is designed for girls age 8-15. Both events are at capacity.
