McGovern, Neal Announce $100,000 Grant to Help Fight Opioid Crisis in Rural Massachusetts
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-02) and Congressman Richard E. Neal (MA-01) announced a $100,000 Rural Opioid Overdose Reversal (ROOR) Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help rural Massachusetts coalitions to prevent opioid overdose deaths. The grant will support efforts led by the North Quabbin Community Coalition, Northern Berkshire Community Coalition and the Opioid Task Force of Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region in partnership with Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
2014 Year in Review
In 2013, I became the U.S. Representative for the newly reconfigured 2nd Congressional District, consisting of 63 cities and towns. Since then, I have had the opportunity to learn from many of you as I have visited communities across the district.
As we begin the 114th Congress, I want to share some of the highlights of my office’s work over the last year.
Tax Season Opens January 20, 2015
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns electronically on Jan. 20, 2015. Paper tax returns will begin processing at the same time.

Lawmakers call on EPA to limit chemicals threatening bees
U.S. Rep James McGovern, who represents part of Franklin County in Congress, is among 60 House members who called on the federal Environmental Protection Agency Tuesday to take immediate steps to protect bees and other pollinators from the impacts of some pesticides.
2014 Farm Tour
In August, I organized a three-day, district-wide farm tour that included 20 stops at local producers, co-op markets, and food distribution centers. I was happy that U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Edward Avalos, MA Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Maeve Vallely Bartlett, and MA Commissioner of Agriculture Greg Watson were able to accompany me on the tour.
Rep. McGovern touches base with constituents during visit
U.S. Rep. James “Jim” McGovern wants to take what Franklin County’s got and give it to the rest of the country.
“What I love about the new part of my district is that, out here, people demonstrate how to do things right,” McGovern told a crowd of constituents gathered at Green Fields Market Saturday. His district, largely in Worcester County, grew to include Greenfield and 13 central and eastern Franklin County towns during last year’s federal redistricting.
His words referred to the county’s commitment to sustainable living, support of local agriculture and enthusiasm for renewable energies.
Congressman McGovern on Governor Patrick's announced steps to preserve SNAP benefits for 163,000 MA househoulds
BOSTON – Tuesday, March 18, 2014 – Governor Deval Patrick today announced steps to preserve Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for approximately 163,000 households in Massachusetts and avoid the loss of approximately $142 million in SNAP benefits set to be cut under the recently enacted federal Farm Bill.
"Government's role is to help people help themselves, and these steps are necessary to help our most vulnerable residents and families meet their most basic needs," said Governor Patrick.
U.S. Rep. McGovern leads bipartisan call to President for full LIHEAP funding in 2015 budget
U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern today led a bipartisan effort of nearly 125 members of the U.S. House in calling on President Obama to “prioritize the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)” in the President’s 2015 budget proposal “by including no less than $4.7 billion for this program that provides critical support to our most vulnerable citizens.
Massachusetts Delegation announces $8.3 million federal grant for marathon bombing victims
The Massachusetts Delegation today announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded Massachusetts an Antiterrorism and Emergency Assistance Program for Crime Victim grant for $8,355,648 to cover expenses as a result of the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013.
