Defense and National Security
A strong national defense is necessary to protect our vital national interests, both at home and abroad. Congress must ensure that our nation’s defense and national security programs are both cost-efficient and effective in protecting Americans and American interests.
Economy and Jobs
The greatest issue affecting our country today is the state of our economy. Too many Pennsylvanians are out of work while many others are just getting by. Since taking office, I have worked tirelessly to pass legislation that will put Americans back to work and get our economy back on track.
Education
Access and affordability have been the two most significant concerns facing Congress in the field of education. Federal input and oversight of primary and secondary education is implemented through the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These bills represent policies aimed at ensuring high quality education resources are available for all.
Energy
Energy has always been at the core of Pennsylvania’s economy. As technology continues to evolve, we are working to ensure that Pennsylvania stays at the forefront of the energy market.
Environment & Conservation
We owe it to our children and grandchildren to leave to them a clean, healthy environment.
Government Spending and Oversight
Our government should be accountable to the taxpayers that pay for it. That means using taxpayer dollars prudently and responsibly, cutting waste and abuse, and setting priorities for our spending. Congress must also conduct vigorous oversight to ensure agencies are run efficiently and Americans are treated fairly by their government.
Health Care
As the husband of a nurse practitioner, I know full well the need for quality care and access to our health care system. The cost of providing and accessing quality health care is skyrocketing, and patients are the ones bearing the brunt of these costs in the form of higher premiums, increased co-pays, and greater prescription drug costs.
Spending Cuts and Debt
One of the greatest responsibilities given to Congress is the monumental task of allocating the federal budget. For the last three decades our federal deficit has averaged three percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

Transportation
Our national transportation infrastructure is the backbone of the American economy. Our transportation systems allow commuters to get to work and businesses to get their goods to market, but our infrastructure is outdated and in dire need of mondernization.
