The House approved legislation that includes Sen. Chris Murphy’s mental health bill and authorizes spending $1 billion to treat and prevent opioid addiction.

Three members of Connecticut’s delegation in Washington got an early look at some of New Britain’s planned construction projects Monday as U.S. Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal and U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty joined Mayor Erin Stewart to talk about the city’s infrastructure and tour sites included in the Complete Streets Master Plan.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and U.S. Representative Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) applauded Senate approval on Tuesday of legislation to expand the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project to allow for the sharing of information on the lives of servicemembers who are missing in action or who have died as a result of their service. The bipartisan Gold Star Families Voices Act was introduced in the Senate by Blumenthal and U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (D-KS) and led in the House by Esty, U.S. Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ), and others. The bill, which was voted out of the House of Representatives earlier this year, was approved by the Senate today by a vote of 97-0 and now heads to President Obama’s desk for signature.

CHESHIRE — Candles illuminated a hopeful glow from tens of thousands of luminaries lining the streets in Cheshire as the sun set on Saturday.

Lights of Hope, a fundraiser for local community organizations, brought in $65,000 this year from luminary sales and business sponsorships.
