This week I was proudly took my oath of office and was sworn into the 115th Congress to continue to serve and represent the great people of the 32nd Congressional District.
As Members of Congress we are entrusted with the responsibility to effectively and responsibly fund our nation’s government. This week we passed a measure to fund the government into the new year and increases spending to ensure our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to protect our freedom both at home and abroad.
Today the House Republican Conference ratified the nominations for Committee Chairmanships and I am honored to serve as the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules for the 115th Congress. As Chairman I have strived to create a more transparent and open process that encourages all members to bring their ideas to the table.
During this season of thanks may we join our family, friends, and fellow Americans in reflecting upon the invaluable contributions of the men and women who serve in the United States military at home and around the world.
Last week Americans across the country sent a resounding message to Washington we need a change. North Texans and Americans are tired of lackluster economic growth, tired of hundreds of rules and regulations straining job growth, and tired of unelected bureaucrats in Washington dictating their lives.
Today we honor our nation’s veterans, from the soldiers who heeded the call to battle in World War I, to the members of the greatest generation who stormed the beaches of Normandy, to all of the brave men and women who have fought to preserve our freedom both at home and abroad.
During this District Work period I had the opportunity to meet with local leaders about North Texas water issues, discuss economic development in Sachse, and more. I always value listening to the input of my constituents across the district and learning how I can help make life better for all North Texans.
This week I proudly joined the people of Dallas in honoring our police chief, David Brown. It is with mixed emotion that Dallas says goodbye to Chief Brown after 33 years of service with the Dallas Police Department. For more than three decades, Chief Brown has devoted himself to the protection of our citizens and the betterment of our city.
When the president rolled out ObamaCare he promised the American people that they could keep their preferred doctor, stay on their current healthcare plan, and their healthcare costs would decrease. After six years of this law, we know that is simply not the case.
This week I was delighted to welcome the eight Republican members of the Rules Committee to the 32nd Congressional District for a panel discussion at the Bush Institute. We had a robust discussion with 150 members of the Dallas business and education community about our role as members of the Rules Committee and how we work to best represent the views of our constituents.
