Statement on George McKenna School Board victory

Los Angeles, CA – Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.) released the following statement today following Dr. George McKenna’s victory in last night's special election for the Los Angeles Board of Education, District 1:

"I wish to congratulate Dr. George McKenna on his victory last night for Los Angeles Board of Education, District 1. I look forward to working with Dr. McKenna to ensure students in District 1 have access to equal resources so that they can succeed.

"With over 660,000 K-12 students and an annual budget of $6.5 billion, the students, parents and families in Los Angeles will have a board member who will bring with him a lifetime of education experience to the Board.

"Election victories are earned--not given. Dr. McKenna has earned the voters' support because of his thorough understanding of the district and a deep-rooted commitment to youth from all backgrounds."
