On Tuesday, Congressmember Karen Bass (CA-37) joined International Game Technology (ITG) for the grand opening of the Tom Bradley Global Awareness Magnet School Computer Lab. The computer lab is part of IGT’s After School Advantage Program, which provides educational opportunities to local children by donating new computers, printers, software, furniture, and volunteer hours to public schools and non-profit organizations that sponsor after-school programs. Through IGT’s $56,000 donation, the Tom Bradley Global Awareness Magnet received 35 desktop computers, a projection system, assorted furniture and decorations for the room.

The computer lab, which will be available to 250 after school students, was made possible through the collaborative effort between IGT, the Los Angeles Unified School District and Rep. Bass’ commitment to delivering resources that have a real and tangible impact on the community.

Every young person, regardless of their zip code, deserves a fair shot and the chance to make it if they try. But too often, children in this community lack the necessary tools needed to reach their true potential. The proliferation of technology has fundamentally changed the way we learn. Our kids are not only competing with one another, they are competing with children around the globe. That’s why, more than ever, connectivity and accessibility is key to educational success.

Quality modern education is one of the most important things we can provide our children in the 37th district. Computer skills are becoming increasingly necessary in the ever modernizing workplace. This lab will be used to educate our future leaders coming out of L.A.
