Defense

The most basic responsibility of the federal government is to protect our nation and its citizens.  When we fund our military, we do just that.

Since coming to Congress, I have been committed to protecting the men and women serving our country and the many military installations in Pennsylvania, such as the Carlisle Barracks, Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg, Army War College, and Tobyhanna Army Depot.  I recognize the jobs these installations provide are critical to our local economy, and most importantly they support the safety of our troops and the security of our country.

Moving forward, I believe the safety of our nation and preparedness of our military forces should remain a top priority.  I will continue to ensure that we have the tools necessary to remain vigilant in an ever changing world, while also making common-sense decisions to save taxpayer dollars where possible, in areas that will not affect the safety or success of our troops and missions.

By Rep. Lou Barletta

It was like something from a Hollywood movie, but it was real. At about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 23, a computer in an electricity distribution center in western Ukraine seemed to take on a life of its own. While a helpless worker watched, the cursor on the screen moved by itself and clicked on a box that opened a series of circuit breakers — a move that would take the entire power station offline.
