No American Should Be Above the Law
I have taken a few days this week to contemplate this important issue, its impact on our country, and to give Director Comey the opportunity to explain his decision to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Director Comey’s decision is disappointing. The findings released by the FBI investigation on Tuesday make it clear that Secretary Clinton has consistently misled the American people since the news of her private email server came to light in the Spring of 2015.

Guest Column In The Clarion-Ledger: Obama Power Plan Costly For Mississippi
How does the Clean Power Plan negatively affect Mississippi families? It’s simple: by raising our electric bills. From a more technical aspect, the plan threatens electricity reliability and affordability by impacting Mississippi’s current power plant mix (think shutting down coal plants) through further regulation of carbon dioxide emissions. Imagine that — the Environmental Protection Agency wants to place more restrictions on us.

Harper Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood and Repeal Obamacare
Today, House Republicans set a tone for 2016 that reaffirms that the life of the unborn is precious and that Americans should no longer be punished by Obamacare. The House will send to the President’s desk a bill that repeals and replaces Obamacare and defunds Planned Parenthood while providing additional funding for community health centers to ensure women have access to quality care. By the use of reconciliation (ironically the same budget tool that was utilized to help pass Obamacare in 2009), the House passed H.R. 3762 – the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act by an overwhelming margin.

The Second Amendment
As a new year begins, the president is launching a new attack on the Second Amendment. He has completely missed the mark on this issue. The Second Amendment guarantees the right of law-abiding American citizens to bear arms and defend their families, and it is unimaginable that the president would seek to infringe upon this right given to us by our founding fathers. It is puzzling and frightening to me that the president seems to be more concerned with restricting law-abiding Americans than he is with putting an end to fundamentalist Islamic terrorists.

As we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus, let us remember that the holiday season is also about family and the love we share for each other. It’s about gathering together to share in the traditions that we hold dear, not only as a family or a community, but as a nation. As we do that, let us not forget to express our gratitude to the men and women who serve or have served our country in the protection of our freedoms.

Syrian Refugees
We must act now and formulate a plan to wipe this radical terror group from the face of the earth before they have the capabilities to hit us here at home. There must continue to be a coalition of nations willing to take the fight to Islamic terrorists, wherever they may be found. Working with our allies and the countries in the region that are most affected by ISIS is certainly in everyone’s best interest, but it’s time for America to do the right thing: LEAD. Finally, we must stand by France. In the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives hangs a portrait of the French military officer Marquis de Lafayette, whose assistance was integral to the birth of our nation. If France is at war, the United States must be at war as well.

His Holiness reminded us in a tone that was warm and sincere that Jesus Christ calls us to live by the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Mt 7:12).” He expounded, “This rule points us in a clear direction. Let us treat others with the same passion and compassion with which we want to be treated. Let us seek for others the same possibilities which we seek for ourselves. Let us help others to grow, as we would like to be helped ourselves.”

Defunding Planned Parenthood
In the wake of the videos that exposed Planned Parenthood’s leadership brazenly discussing the harvesting and selling of fetal body parts, I applaud my colleagues for their hard work in continuing to end this horrible practice. As a father, I am troubled by the thought that there are children throughout our country that are sentenced to death before ever having the chance to experience the joy of life.
