Congressman Norcross Continues Commitment to America’s Security

Washington, D.C. –Donald Norcross (NJ-01) was re-appointed to the House Armed Services Committee, today, and affirmed his commitment to strengthen America’s national security and fight for New Jersey’s military families.

“As the proud father of a veteran, serving on the House Armed Services Committee is personal for me. Whether they’re here at home or halfway across the globe, our troops deserve to know we have their back,” Norcross said. “In the last Congress, we were able to pass the largest military pay raise in six years. I’m hopeful we can work together to build on that progress and expand access to healthcare for our service members and veterans.”

Norcross will be one of only two New Jersey representatives, and the state’s only Democrat, to serve on the Armed Services Committee.  He said he will use his position to continue his commitment to fight for Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst.

“The joint base is vitally important to our national security and New Jersey’s economy. The base employs more than 40,000 military and civilian employees and contributes almost $7 billion to our economy,” Norcross said. “In the last Congress, we successfully fought to protect the KC-10 refueling tanker planes at the joint base. Now, I’m working with the Air Force to advocate for new KC-46 Pegasus tankers to be stationed at the base. The base is ideal for the next generation of tankers, and they would provide greater certainty for future generations of New Jerseyans, for our national security, and the state's economy.”

Norcross has also used his position on the committee to advocate for workers and to strengthen our relationship with Israel. In the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act, the Congressman successfully included provisions to invest in manufacturing research at our local universities, promote project labor agreements in defense contracts, and bolster a joint US-Israel ballistic missile defense project.

“In addition to fighting for our men and women in uniform, I’m also fighting for the hundreds of thousands of civilian workers who support our military.  Fair contracts that support workers will incentivize hiring veterans, increase wages and improve efficiency – making our nation more safe and secure” Norcross said.

In addition to continuing his service on the Armed Services Committee, Norcross was also selected to serve on the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
