On Sunday, I called for FBI Director James Comey to resign after his recent communication with members of Congress regarding the bureau's review of emails potentially related to Hillary Clinton's private email server. Announcing the Beginning of the Open Enrollment Period for the Healthcare.gov Marketplace

Opening a new VA Clinic in Memphis
Yesterday, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new VA Primary Care Clinic on Nonconnah Boulevard near I-240. This new facility is much larger than the old facility that was housed on Raines Road and will include all primary care clinic operations including physicians, nurses, technicians and administrative staff members. It will allow the Memphis VA to expand its services and improve primary care for our veterans.
Celebrating the Grand Opening of the Midtown Kroger
On Wednesday, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Kroger in Midtown. The architects did a marvelous job of making the store consistent with the architecture and character of the neighborhood. I brought with me a picture (above) from the Memphis Press-Scimitar of me and my mom at the 1952 opening of the Kroger store in Poplar Plaza.
Tuesday, November 8 is Election Day!
Tuesday, November 8 is Election Day for the State and Federal General Election. Visit the Shelby County Election Commission’s website for more information on when and where you can vote on Tuesday. I voted during early voting, and I encourage everyone to vote as well.
2016 Federal Procurement Fair for Small Business Owners
On Monday, November 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the FedEx Institute of Technology at University of Memphis, I will be hosting my 2016 Federal Procurement Fair for Small Businesses. During this time, small businesses will learn about doing business with the federal government as well as network with other small businesses. 8th Annual Veterans Day Luncheon
On Friday, November 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at BRIDGES, I will be hosting my 8th annual Veterans Day BBQ Luncheon to honor our veterans in Memphis. I will also discuss my work as your Representative in Washington, DC to help improve the lives of veterans, including my support of programs that assist our veterans who are homeless or who are on the verge of homelessness. Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) Grant Program
The United States Department of Agriculture is seeking applications for grants to increase purchases of healthy fruits and vegetables by low-income families participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The federal funding will be awarded to eligible nonprofits and governmental organizations that demonstrate a successful track record of nutrition programs and develop innovative systems that can be replicated by other underserved communities. Each week, I will be suggesting a health tip in the hopes of promoting a healthy lifestyle for residents of the 9th Congressional District. As always, it’s best to check with your doctor before making any changes to your diet or exercise routine.
The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition recommends 30 minutes of physical activity per day for adults and 60 minutes of physical activity per day for children for at least five days per week to have a healthy lifestyle. Learn about ways you can be active here.
