WASHINGTON - 394 Members of Congress signed a bipartisan letter urging President Obama to veto possible upcoming one-sided initiatives in the United Nations concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Administrator Smith, I welcome you, again, to the helm of USAID, and I am pleased to have you here today. USAID continues to play an indispensable role in spearheading global development efforts, and I’m sure we’ll see even greater achievements under your leadership.

Secretary Kerry, it’s a pleasure to welcome you before our Subcommittee. Since you were sworn into office, the world has witnessed unprecedented levels of turmoil, requiring strong U.S. leadership on many fronts.
Chief among them is the Middle East.

As I said last week, the Republican budget resolution has led to clear winners and losers in the subcommittee allocations. The State and Foreign Operations bill is $6.1 billion, or 11.3%, less than the President’s request and uses OCO to partially make up for shortfalls imposed by the inadequate allocation.
The 2016 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill drastically shortchanges critical components of our national security – diplomacy and development – cutting more than 11% from the President’s budget request. Additionally, it includes new and politically motivated ideological riders designed to feed Republicans’ sham Benghazi investigation and undermine President
