THE ARTISTIC DISCOVERY CONTEST

Congressional Art CompetitionEach spring, the United States House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide high school arts competition called “The Artistic Discovery Contest.”

This competition is a wonderful way to encourage national artistic talent, and allows us to high light local talent in New Jersey’s 1st Congressional District.

The contest is open to all high school students residing in the 1st District.  The District’s overall winner will have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year.  The exhibit in Washington will contain artwork from contest winners across the country.

To be eligible for entry, your art work may be up to 28 inches by 28 inches (including frame) and up to 4 inches in depth.  The art, which must be an original in concept, design, and execution, may be:
-    Paintings, including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
-    Drawings, including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
-    Collage (must be 2 dimensional)
-    Prints, including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
-    Mixed media
-    Computer Generated Art
-    Photography

The deadline for submission is April 22, 2016.  All art work should be dropped off to our Congressional District Office at: 10 Melrose Avenue, Suite 210, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003.  Our office is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM until 5 PM.  If you have any questions or need to make other arrangements, please give us a call at 856-427-7000.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.  Since its inception, there have been over 650,000 high school students involved with the competition nationwide.
