The election may have passed, but I join millions of Americans across the country who stand firm in the resolve that our nation will be one that works for everyone — a stronger, inclusive America built around uplifting and empowering all of its citizens.

Like many Americans, I was appalled by much of the hurtful and divisive rhetoric used by Donald Trump during his campaign. His demeaning of women, people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities and even a Gold Star family was reprehensible.

“What happened today in the House is a disgrace! 35 Republicans voted with Democrats to support the rights of the LGBT community. Then, from the dark corners of the room Speaker Ryan cajoled and harassed them until several secretly switched their votes to oppose equal rights. These actions bring shame on the institution and on our democracy.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) announced a random-selection lottery for a limited number of tickets to attend an address by His Holiness Pope Francis before a joint session of the United States Congress on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Only constituents from California’s 26th Congressional District may participate in the lottery. Ticket holders will be able to view the address from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol via televised broadcast.
