South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy has sponsored an amendment to H.R. 5326, which cuts $1,000,000 from the Justice Department’s General Administration fund. It passed in the House by a voice vote because of the DOJ’s constant stonewalling about Operation Fast & Furious.

A motion South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy introduced this week to cut Department of Justice employees’ salaries by $1 million passed the U.S. House of Representatives by voice vote — a sign of overwhelming support — on Tuesday.

Christ Church Episcopal School was well represented at the District 4 Congressional Art Competition, held on May 4th at the CU-ICAR campus.  Out of more than 50 entries from public and private schools across the district, sophomore Brittain Hughes was awarded first place.  In recognition of her award, Brittain’s photograph will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

Can religious beliefs be forced on you? Can government decide which religious beliefs are “acceptable” and which are not? Of course not. But this is the crux of the “free exercise” debate ignited by the Obama administration’s recent new health care mandate that forces employers to provide “free” contraception, sterilization and abortifacients.

At a time when public confidence in the institutions of government is at an all-time low, it is imperative we act to restore public trust.

One institution that should be above politics is the United States Department of Justice. The Department of Justice should be fair and impartial because our republic needs to have confidence in the civil and criminal justice systems.
