American Energy

The energy sector is crucial to growing our economy and reducing our reliance on foreign sources. I support an all-American approach for all sources of energy and believe the private sector should drive our initiatives. We do this by reducing regulations, letting the industry drill, and promoting the advancement of safe nuclear and alternative energy sources. We should continue developing wind, solar, clean coal, biofuels, nuclear energy, as well as oil and natural gas. Not only will this reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil, it will create thousands of American jobs. 
 
As our energy industry continues to boom, the U.S. could potentially be the world’s leading oil producer in the next year. Texas’ oil reserves account for close to one-third of all U.S. reserves, making us the most oil-rich state in America. Texas’ 25th District is home to the Barnett Shale, a major job creator, energy provider, and economic driver in the oil and gas energy. In fact, it is one of the most productive sources of shale gas in the country. The shale oil boom in Texas contributes to our nation’s overall ability to cut reliance on foreign oil and get one step closer to energy independence. That’s what happens when you cut through bureaucratic red tape and energize the energy business.
 
However, the current administration has done nothing but increase the cost of doing business and hold up common sense infrastructure improvements like the Keystone XL Pipeline. That’s why I support further expansion of the Keystone XL pipeline, which is estimated to create over 20,000 direct jobs and carry nearly a million additional barrels per day of secure Canadian oil supplies to U.S. refineries. The House has passed two bills to overcome the president’s obstruction and continue the construction of this vital project. H.R. 3, the Northern Approval Act, passed the House with bipartisan support and seeks to end the regulatory delays blocking construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. The House also passed H.R. 2, the American Energy Solutions for Lower Costs and More American Jobs Act, a broad energy package.
 
Developing our domestic energy sources will undoubtedly lower energy prices for families and businesses.

Members of the U.S. House overwhelmingly passed two Environmental Protection Agency nullification bills on to President Barack Obama's desk that Rep. Joe Barton, R-Ennis, and Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, say would otherwise have resulted in higher consumer energy prices.

Barton, who represents areas of Tarrant County including Burleson, Crowley and Rendon, said it was a vote to support American energy independence.

Congressman Williams introduces bill to repeal EPA’s CAFE standards

This week, U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX) introduced H.R. 2445, a bill to repeal the corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards imposed on car manufacturers.

The EPA’s CAFE standards were originally created by the 1975 Energy Policy Conservation Act and require manufacturers to achieve certain targets for fuel economy.  The federal government’s rules require an average fuel economy of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.

Congressman Williams spoke on the house floor today, calling for Congress to join him in standing up for the free market and consumer choice.
